Winter road conditions were to blame for an
accident that claimed the life of a 62-year-old man on Zero Ave.
The crash occurred Saturday evening, when a
pick-up truck and a Buick crashed head-on.
"At the time of the collision, weather
conditions were deteriorating due to falling snow," said Cpl. Dave Peat of
the Langley RCMP's traffic section.
The crash happened in the 20500 block of
Zero Ave., around 6:40 p.m., Jan. 15.
A 1997 Ford F150 pick-up was heading west,
and Peat said it appears the truck crossed over into the path on the
oncoming Buick, which was heading east.
Victor Kivisel, a passenger in the Buick,
was taken to Langley Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The female driver of the car was also taken
to hospital, but her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
The couple in the Buick were residents of
Las Vegas, visiting the Lower Mainland.
Cpl. Dale Carr of the Langley RCMP said
speed tables recently installed along Zero Ave. had nothing to do with the
crash.
He said it didn't happen at an
intersection, and the RCMP have "absolutely ruled out speed humps" as a
factor in the collision.
"In this particular crash, it looks like
driver error in conjunction with the weather conditions" were to blame, Carr
said.
Nevertheless, Township Councillor Bob Long
said Monday morning that he planned to bring to the Council table his
concerns about raised intersections and poor weather conditions.
